I hopped on the bus this morning and just arrived in Manhattan about an hour ago. This evening is the first TED Holiday Salon in NYC. It seems crazy to go anywhere this close to Festival time, but I remain in contact via phone and e-mail. It’s amazing to think how we all remain connected – Barbara in Paris, me here, all of our LIW people all over the world. I was thinking last night on how I might possibly be able to describe this festival to the “TED-sters” tonight…
Our theme of “Connections” is as good a place as any to start – and now we have the brilliant words of our festival artist and friend Tom Eisner, who says that LIW is like “childhood reborn”… as a child, we are drawn to things which interest us, independant of discipline or subject or other compartmentalization – that comes as we grow older, go to school, choose a path, etc. Things become separated, one from the other, but LIW, he says, is like reconnecting to that place where the world was one, and we found it full of wonder… of course, there is nothing like hearing Mr. Eisner say it himself. You could have heard a pin drop in the room, we were all so entranced by his elegant capturing of the very essence of what we strive to be.

Anyway, I’m off to troll the neighborhood on this unusually warm December day. [We'll learn more about that during Andy Revkin's "The North Pole was Here", I am sure!]
