Went to the Palais de Tokyo, the museum of contemporary art in Paris. Monday night, pouring rain, located on the banks of the river way off the Champs Elysses. Walked up the stairs to be greeted by five people, who all thanked me for coming out in this weather for the debate on immigration and human rights, would I please sign in. Felt like I was in the middle of an Ishiguro novel… turns out the museum is closed Mondays, was open only for this special private event. A momentary frisson of both confusion and delight: then back out into the night.

Here I am in rainy Paris, guest-teaching management communication for a week. Thanks to e-mail, however intermittant, there is still a tie to LIW; but without Madeline’s dedication and skill, these final weeks would be a real headache. Everyone I talk to about LIW over here is very impressed, so we should be getting a lot of French web hits. Good thing Jackie is so fabulous at getting things up… distance always prompts soul searching, at least for me. And in thinking about this festival, it seems clear that embarking on a journey into unknown territory with a large group of strangers, which is essentially what Light in Winter weekend is, is a rare treat. It’s safe, but stimulating; challenging, but fun; in short, well worth doing! Love Paris, can’t wait to get home.
